2011 Motorsports Year Review

Hello Internet, Asian Phil here. 2011 is coming to an end, Christmas has already snuck up on us; holiday merchandise and decorations have flooded the nation before Thanksgiving even had a chance to start.

2011 is a pretty exciting year in term of motorsports, many glories and tragedies. Any racefriv fans who are into fast toys are pretty much motosport fans as well. Why Motorsports? Mankind likes to compete, compare, and excel; the history is written by the victor and it always has been. People like to compare starting in childhood: height, report cards, Pokemon cards, body weight, bra sizes, salary figures, houses, lawn color etc. In the world of cars and motorcycles, when the comparison can not be settled on paper, the victor has to be determined elsewhere. Pull your pants up and put the ruler away boys, this is the highlight of 2011 Motorsports. Read below for all the info you need for 2011!

Random Snap: The British Occupation

I was walking down the street the other day, wondering where all the thick fog came from...

A tiny little bit of foggy London-town seems to be the culprit!   I've heard it driving around since this day, and I'm pretty sure it's got some go-fast goodies on it, but I can never catch up with the owner.

Internet Love: Low Brain

Found this little gem on omgdrift.com. James Deane destroyed the Drift Allstars Championship this year, with the sickest S13 Ive ever seen but thats not why im posting this video up. Its because the drifting is amazing, the old school remix is great and overall its one of the best drift videos Ive seen in a while. Enjoy.

Technical Corner: Differentials.

I know that most people have seen this video but if you havent, you need to. The best video ever made explaining differentials. If you ever wondered what goes on in that pumpkin between your wheels watch this. It will blow your mind on how simple they explain it. Also its about  a 70 year old video so thats fun too!

Random Snap: German Oldie

So I haven't seen much since I have moved to Germany, since everything is mostly put away for the winter, but today I saw this elderly wonder at work. It's a 1953 Mercedes 170DS, in mighty fine shape, rocking its original 1.8L four cylinder diesel. This bad boy made 40hp and 74lb-ft. of torque, and would top out at about 65mph! Big numbers for an Autobahn stormer!

Eagle Motorsports and Formula SAE

So I wanted to make this post up for a few reasons. One, a lot of us here at racefriv are previous builders of the Georgia Southern Formula car. Russel, Parker, (and other great friends) got the program back on its feet after it was left idle for a few years. Two, because if there is a younger crowd reading this then I highly recommend that if you end up at a college with an Formula SAE team to join it and enjoy it. I learned much more of what I wanted to learn through this program than most of my college classes. Third, because the car is badass; it's a car- made from scratch, by a bunch of intelligent guys that just wanted to build and drive a racecar. Isn't that all of us?

The SouthrnFresh at Garage Zero Meet

So Southrnfresh recently came out and celebrated its 2nd anniversary at GarageZero  with a car meet, which included some of the nicest cars in Atlanta and the coolest people I've ever met at an "import" meet. I've never really been a huge fan of car shows, I'm a function over form kinda guy, but a meet like this is a must-go-to event. The cars that show up are usually someones daily driver or weekend fun cars, not too many built "just for show" cars come out which is what makes it a really awesome event. Real cars. Real people. Real fun.

(I've never seen this many AE86's in my life! It was epic!)
