Go-Pro Vs Contour comparison

Go-Pro or Contour? what should I get?  That was a question Kevin Lu one of our Racefriv contributors asked me.  Actually he specifically needed to know about underwater usage to compare to just getting a dive housing for his Canon S100.  He texted me, but i'm not the sort of person who can answer a photographic related question in 150 characters.  So Kevin, instead of just answering you alone, in a series of badly written texts, here's the long James May answer!  Hit the jump for more.

Import Alliance 2012 Summer Meet-Dreams Do Come True

July 28, 2012 marks another much anticipated Import Alliance summer meet. Car guys wait all year for this event. After all it is arguably the largest gathering of imports on the east coast. This year IA summer meet was held at a new venue which many were against. It was held at ZMAX dragway in Charlotte, NC and after being held in Nashville for so many years, many didn't want to make the long haul out there. From Atlanta to Charlotte, it's only about a 5 hour drive so I didn't really have a problem driving out there. The only thing I was worried about was the dreadful NC and SC roads. Every year I look forward to this event, not because of the cars, but because I get to catch up with all my old friends. Once a year my friends from Atlanta, Huntsville, Birmingham, Nashville, Memphis, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan all meet in the same spot.

AMS Auto X with the Porsche Club!

Our racefriv Stig impersonator Christian Retterer recently hit up a Porsche Autocross event at AMS and invited me out to take some pics. We don't usually do Autocross events here on racefriv but I think we're going to do a lot more in future. Click read more to check out the pics!

Shenanigans with Jeeps!

Every once in a while when the racefriv crew isnt working on drift cars, street cars, or on the blog we like to take a little time off for shenanigans. It just so happens our favorite type of shenanigans is the off roading type. As some of you know I recently sold the suby and purchased myself the all around vehicle, it started with looking for a tow vehicle and ended with an Jeep Rubicon. Of course I wasn't going to purchase something like this and not break it in. So me and our racefriv friend Audet went for a little drive on top of a mountain! Check out the pics!

The 86 Life! Happy 86 day!

 The 86 brotherhood is an odd thing, its something that's hard to explain. The bond between 86 owners are instant and timeless, its strange to have a connection with so many people with out ever knowing them. To an outsider it may seem weird, even foolish, but once you drive one you get the idea. The car personifies fun, it embraces driving like a high schooler, and (almost) never lets you down. Two of a Kind... Black Skyline.

So in the S2 @ AMS post I introduced you to the R33 you see before you. However it wasn't the only Skyline to grace our presence, an R32 came along as well! We decided before these guys split we needed to get a few pics and here they are in all their skyline glory.

S2 @ AMS!!

So after being dealt a blow by the city of Atlanta Howard Smith finally brought the S2 drift events back, and I for one thank him! I know everyone one out there misses the blue lot but this event brought S2 back with a bang! Two tracks to chose from, indoor pit area, and laps around the banked AMS walls made this one of the more memorable drift events I've ever drifted in. FY Friday: Black Smoke Racing

Ive been following Blacksmokeracing for a while now, apparently some pretty crazy prople got together to  drift a huge Merc wagon diesel. They took it out for some hoonage at Gatbil this year and seems that this year its a supercharged, turbocharged, nitrus injected, diesel.. Totally 100% fuck yes.

Also on another note we know its been slow lately, dont worry we have a TON of stuff in the very near future including the S2 drift event at AMS (were back) and Import Alliance in NC. Also the Stupercharged S2000 is coming along and after that is racefriv S13vertLS1 project along with a new offroad type of project so stay tuned!!!!!

FY Friday. Birth to Monaco

Driving the Nurburgring!!!

So recently a few members of the racefriv community took a trip to see our racefriv friend Parker in Germany, I got a ton of pics and will make a post about the rest of the trip soon. First though Im going to concentrate on the highlight of the trip, the epic, the awesome, the Green Hell...... The Nurburgring. FD Slides into The Sunshine State

Round 3 “The Invasion” at Palm Beach International Raceway was full of surprises from beginning to end. Between the changes to the course layout, the rain during qualifying, and the heated race between two top drivers, this competition was destined to be one of the most controversial and important events of the season.

This past FD when Angelo came down the hill his hatch flung right open, lol's ensued and I knew before he even came to the top I was going to make a gif out of what happened in the horse shoe. Here is that awesome Gif!!! Fuck Yes indeed.

Formula Drift @ Road Atlanta!!!

The first ever Formula Drift event was at Road Atlanta way back in 2004 and since then Ive never missed a single one, I was there on the first event, I was there when Taka Aono and Sam Hubinette went one more time about 10 times in a row in an AE86 and a Dodge Viper, Ive seen it all; but this years Formula Drift at Road Atlanta was truly one of a kind, not for the crashes and major upsets but for the fact that this year I was going as media. Thanks to the guys at Fitted.Life we were able to get a few media passes and after all these years I could finally walk inside the fence, hang out at the grid, and generally look way more important than I really am. How to Photograph Drifting

Phil here.  I've noticed a trend of spectators coming to drift events with nice DSLRs hoping to take pictures.  I've also seen several less than optimum submissions on various social networking sites so I thought that maybe a tutorial would be useful.  Let me add that I am far from the worlds best drift photographer - lets just get on with it shall we?

Internet Love: The Keep Drifting Fun Movie

Racefriv was there to see this on the big screen at Midtown. It was awesome to see a drift video in a movie theater but what was really awesome was sitting next to the guys who filmed it and the legendary driviers in it like Chris Forsberg. Save Drifting In Atlanta!!!

So I don't normal do this kind of stuff here on racefriv, but this effects all of the racefriv community so I thought it needed to be posted. A local group condo owners have somehow convinced the Atlanta city council to ban drifting in Atlanta Georgia without even hearing from the many people who support this great sport. They are singling out drifting and trying to cancel any event that would be in the Atlanta region. Of course this will lead to drifters taking to the streets which is exactly what the drifting community doesn't want. So drifting is being cancelled in Atlanta and our fellow drifters are in need, what can I do? Well I'm glad you asked. First go join the facebook group here.Click on docs and email the mayor.  Then go sign the petition over at change.org here. Mayor Reed can still veto the amendment, so thats the plan for now. Thanks to everyone for the help. This is a battle that we must not lose.

UPDATE: Just wanted to thank everyone who has signed the petition, we are fighting the good fight, there is close to 5000 signatures on the petition at the time and over 7000 people in the group. For a movement that started 2 days ago that's damn impressive!!! The numbers on this site have even jumped a little from people googleing it, which has brought us over 30,000 views since we started racefriv a little over a year ago. FD is this weekend, FittedLife.com has us shooting under them now which gives us the amazing opportunity to shoot the event on track this time. THANKS FittedLife! Its been a crazy week, KDF movie tommorrow night, FD Thursday and Friday, AMS drifting on Sunday for us and since this whole Turner Field thing came out where going to cut our drift day in half to go show support!!!Thats 4 strait days of drifting and I cant wait!.

UPDATE: Sadly the council passed the  amendment today and basically killed organized drifting inside the perimeter. Drifting will never die in Atlanta though, it will continue on, we will find new places to drift and give our money to another venue. Its so sad that a small group of people can ruin a good time for 1000's of people. We will carry on, drifting isn't dead, actually its probably stronger now. Turner was awesome, but the next place will be even better.
