Project: Scrap Metal..Update!

So project scrap metal is starting to take shape and I figured I'd share some of the progress it's made as it may explain why Ive been selling/buying so many S13 parts lately. Basically this all started when I got bored due to not working on anything, with the Corolla being mostly done and on drift duty I had nothing to wrench on. All my friends recently went out an bought S2000's and I wanted a vert too but couldn't bring my self to sell the suby and get one.  I was determined to get a vert and one day I found this. At first I thought it was going to be a big horse power build but I quickly changed my mind to a cheap, simple and fun build. Something I can drive everyday, enjoy being topless :) and drift it on occasions. So here's where were at. Hit read more for the full story.

(Yes its still looking like scrap metal)

Technical Corner - Engine Pron

Phil "James May" Ball here with the first of what may become a series of interesting yet frivolous articles.

Fact: The vast Majority of people reading this blog are gearheads.  We at racefriv are too, and if you're like us you probably get a small chuckle when you see craigslist ads for cars confusing an I6 and a V6. Mentioning a Wankel engine to a non-car plebian is usually good for a giggle too.  Even gearheads have limits though and many are unaware of some really cool engine designs that history has left behind.  Some were successful, some were not, some just made awesome sounds or looked nice.  So here, for the dedicated gearhead is a small collection of my favorite engines.  If the extreme James May content in this post disturbs you, try to stay calm.  I was born British, my Father was in the RAF and I'm an engine design engineer during the daytime, this stuff excites me way more than it should.  Also - Mustache.

Tally-ho chaps, fancy a quick fight to the death in the sky before Sundays Cricket match?

Unobtainium

Unobtainium (aka Unobtanium) : In engineeringfiction, and thought experiments, unobtainium  is any extremely rare, costly, or impossible material.
Some times you come across something so rare, so unbelievable, something so awesome that you have to have it, and nothing can stop you. This is what happened to our friend Kevin, and once you take a look inside you'll understand why he would travel across a continent for it. (if you don't already understand by the picture below)

Petit Le Mans: The Experience.

So Russel, Jon, and I both took a lot of pics at Petit so we decided to split it for two post one being the "experience" post the other filled with all the race porn you could ever hope for. I wanted to do the experience post because there is a lot more to Petit that sitting around taking pictures of cars, which is what everybody normal sees. So I decided to dive a little deeper into Le Mans and show what it really means to go to a race and stay for 3 days.

A home-made Focus Truck - Fruck? And a car with a new arse.

Phil here, I got me some pictures to post of some neat custom rides. At some point Ish and Russ will probably post some pictures from Petit Le Mans.  I would have gone but I need to spend less money.  I just made a large purchase (that's another post for another day).  While they were heading to Braselton riding along the highway listening to REM "everybody hurts" crying and wishing the band would get back together they saw this fine creation:

Advocare 500 coverage

You might be forgiven for thinking that racefriv only caters to an audience of drift enthusiasts but that's really just a small piece of the very delicious pie we are baking here.  Friend of racefriv Julion Bush recently had the pleasure (I am so totes jelly too) of shooting the recent NASCAR race with the official Atlanta Motor Speedway photographer.  He didn't squander this opportunity either which you will see below.  Julion owns these photo's, so please don't copy them or use them.  If you would like to contact Julion for licensing requests drop us a line at racefriv@gmail.com or contact him directly at julionbush@yahoo.com.  Also take a look at his flickr set to see some others.

Turner Field We Missed You, Glad You're Back

Finally our pictures exhumed themselves from the tomb of Russel's hard drive and have come back as drifting pics worth printing out and putting on your next resume. Turner Field holds a special place in my heart and I'm sure a lot of other people, when it comes to drifting. It was gone but not forgotten and now it has returned to the grassroots homeland of drifting in GA. So lets get to it, Turner Field by S2, Round 1!!!

Euro Snaps - Cars Spotted in Europe

A friend of the RaceFriv community took a trip to Europe and while he was out and about he saw some fun cars and took pictures for us.  So lets 'ave a butchers at 'em (thats my English slang showing through) and thanks to Bryan for passing these on to us.

Some Star Cars!

So I recently hit up Dragon Con 2011, it was insane as always. I checked out the parade to see what would come by and to my surprise there were some pretty sick cars in it. My friend Audet  took a few pics so I stole a few from his camera and figured I'd show to everyone on here. Enjoy!

Snake charming a GT500 Shelby Mustang

We dont usually feature cars that are totally bone stock, but when we do its because they are bat gauno insane.  We took a look at a C6 Z06, here is Fords Orange to the Corvettes Apple, The Mustang GT500.  The mustang is a different kind of animal from the vette, and not just for having 2 more seats in the back.  This is more of a muscle car than a sports car, and in most respects a more practical and comfortable car too.  However having 550hp on tap from the factory and the ability to turn the boost up and make totally ridiculous power with Ford approved parts makes this car popular with the bang/buck crowd.

It rained on us really hard when the owner Robert arrived.  We had to do some drying before we got down to business.

Pursuit of Happiness

If you read here often you know that recently we went on a massive road trip from Washington (the state) to Georgia driving down the 101 then past Reno, through the Rockies, to the great plains and across the Mississippi to home. Sometime when your driving for four straight days you get a little board so I took some video here and there. Also the song playing is that one song you remember from that trip, you know what I'm talking about. That one song that seemed to define the trip you went on. This song seemed to play every 15min and I never got tired of it.

If you missed the post check them here, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

Some are built for comfort, but these were built for speed.

Some cars are built for laptimes, some for gas mileage, some for practicality, but few cars are built for pure joy. Click read more if you would like to peer into the soul of a pair of one of the greatest Japanese sports cars ever built.
